Opening Ceremonies State 2012

Being A Bum

I know its terrible of me, but I really enjoyed having Sunday & Monday at home.  I didn't crawl out of bed to drive to Lost Lake Sunday morning.....but I did catch up on all the laundry (which hasn't been done in 3 months).  Jord and I just worked around the house inside and out.....so relaxing and no schedule. By Sunday night, I was missing my kids and ready for them to be home.  But, when I looked at my house this morning, my thoughts changed when I seen all the bedding, dirty clothes, dishes, and shoes laying all over the house.  Grrrrr..... so much for my clean house! I really enjoyed Larry and Darlene, Jim and Terri and her family this last weekend at State games.  Yes.....we ate a Miner's Burger!!!! So good.  Jim and I were remembering when Mom/Dad used to take us kids there to eat when we lived in Prosser.  Lots of laughter and good times.

District 2012 Softball

Kat and Lorie after winning against Brewster!
Kat, Lorie and Chancy after winning against Brewster

Kat making a play....bloody knees and all-against Brewster
Just thought I would share a few of my favorites pics during Districts.   I went to the school this morning to send the girls off.  We had a rough night last night.....plugged toilet that wouldn't become unplugged until it was snaked!  Trying to pack an excited 15 year old girl who doesn't have all of her clothes clean.  So, doing laundry until 11:00 last night.  We are not prepared.....that is all I can say!

Scatter Brained!

I think everyone is scattered this week.  I normally talk to Kim twice a day and I haven't heard a peep out of her the last three days! I know this sounds bad, but I am a little relieved not to be going to the campout this weekend.  My mind feels overwhelmed and I'm not sure I would be good company for anyone.  Instead, I can take my frustration out on the umpires.  I am happy that I will see some of my family.....with state being in Yakima, it just 45 minutes from Prosser! Aunt Shirley & Uncle Bob called and they are going to try and come with Larry and Darlene.  Their health isn't the best, so I am not counting on them actually making it.  Jim, Terri and Nona are coming and I believe maybe a few of my cousins and other aunts/uncles.  Should be fun and I will enjoy seeing everyone.  We are leaving at 4:30 am Friday to make it to the first game at 9:00 am.  We can't afford to stay 3 nights in a hotel and both Jord and I get up early in the morning anyway, so why not just hit the road and save $100.00.  Happy Trails to everyone.....hope you have a great weekend!

On To State!

Congratulations to the Nannies Fastpitch!  We are going to Yakima for State....first time for Pateros Fastpitch.  We had some very excited girls and coaches last night.  Now, we play Saturday to determine which place we go in.....we play Warden (#1 from the south league) at 1:00 then depending on the outcome we will play for the championship or 3 or 4 place if we lose.

It Happens When You are Old and Fat!

Apparently,  I don't know how to lift my leg high enough to get into the bathtub! Tuesday night I rammed my toe into the side of the tub....heard a "crack" and lots of pain.  I think I broke my baby toe....nothing you can do about a broken toe except baby it.  By the time I got home yesterday, my toe and top of foot was swollen and multi colored, so I stayed home to elevate it and iced it. This morning....swelling down, pain almost gone....feeling about 80%.  I was really irritated with myself, because my arch has been doing so much better.....to the point that I may actually be able to take a walk....then boom....broke my toe! The girls play today in East Wenatchee at 4:30.....they have to win to go to state.....Saturday we will play for placement and could possible face Brewster.  At least the weather decided to warm up and I won't be wrapped up in blankets!

Marching, Marching......

Saturday I was at the school band room at 8:00 am to help dress and load the kids for the Manson Apple Blossom Festival.  It was an experience.  The kids got to wear the marching uniforms for the first time, so there was a lot of buttons that needed to be sewn back on after dry cleaning.  I followed the band to Manson and chaperoned and watched the parade.  The kids did fantastic!!! They definately held their own against the bigger bands.  Lots of fun!

Garden Record

Can you name that flower?

Just a few pictures to look back on. Progress seems to be coming much slower than usual this year, but I have accomplished a few things.

Hint: If you don't like to dance at the ball.

English Wallflower - I hope it reseeds well in the garden, I love the orange/bronze color

My little $8 maple - I think it is an Acer japonicum

.50 pansy's from T&L

Into blue, peach, and bronze this year

You probably can't see these, but my delphinium I planted last spring from seed, dropped a few seeds. My ground is perfect for volunteers

Garlic Grove

Pretty barren looking, but I have my peas, potatoes, onions, leeks, celery, cabbage, broccoli, beets, fennel, and parsnips planted.

Little leeks, growing out of their trench.

Finally got the roof on and moved geese in.

More changes to come to this view

Initial grading in the front yard

Looking less like grapes of wrath, but not much less

last years hold over

It was 111 degrees at 11:30 today in the greenhouse. The little basil are hopping out of the seed tray.

Tomatoes

Unsure, what struck this flat of peppers? Looks like I'm going to lose all of my jalepenos

Big Reds, looking nice

I've got a Pineapple

Update

Very thankful this morning that Kat's knee is better.  Still swollen and multi-colored but she is mobile and walking carefully.  Connie Miller showed her some stretches yesterday that really helped.  And....no....we are not letting her play tonight against Brewster.  Everyone was on the same page with that one! Her team was waiting for her this morning at school and they were very concerned and supportive.....bunch of nice girls!

Life is just peaches....

Well, the girls couldn't pull off a win last night against Brewster.  Tough game, lots of running errors on our side.  Kat did great....she worked through the pain, but when we got her home she was in tears with pain.  Her knee/leg was very swollen, so I stayed home with her to ice and hot pack it.  Swelling was down this morning, but we had her stay home to ice/heat/repeat all day long.  They are supposed to play a double header against Brewster tomorrow and I'm not excited about her playing in it.  We have secured 2nd place for sure, we would have to win both games tomorrow to go in first and I don't think she could last pitching both games not unless she is 100%.  I'm the Mom that says....."let her rest and beat them at Districts!" We will see how she is tomorrow.  Wish I was going to Portland with Jord, but someone has to stay home to get kids where they need to be/feed critters at the Evans and the homefront.....so I volunteered to stay home.  We won't send the kids to a game without someone from the church/family present.

My Lilac Collection

Sorry for not posting my spring garden. I've just been swamped! I am so far behind. I didn't grow much extra this year, and I focused on perennials. However, I have so enjoyed my French Lilacs. Lilacs are meant to be cut, placed in a vase on the table! They have heavenly fragrance, and beautiful color. I have two not pictured, Pres. Grevy, a double blue, and Mdm. Lemoine, a double white.

The pink buds with blush blossoms is Beauty of Moscow

The blue/lilac double was planted before Kim and Marty's time. It is one of the few saved plants on the place.

This Pink/Lilac actually looks medium pink to soft pink. It's name is Montaigne. Very lovely and delicate.

Adelaide Dunbar, in bud is a deep claret. As it opens the color becomes more muted and soft. In bud form, the buds are small and almost frilly. Unique, deep color, very beautiful.

I'm very pleased with how they look from the house. My colors start blue, then blush pink, then claret, then clear pink, then white. I have seen a couple of lilacs around town that I would love to get a cutting from, but they get so big.
